Biology is not always pretty and the stomach is a good example. Almost anything you put in is attacked by acid and broken down into a bad smelling liquid. The digestive juices consist mainly of hydrochloric acid which could be used to clean mortar from bricks. Luckily our body is protected from the acid by a layer of mucus!
